When I went to college for VFX, I had high expectations for what I expected to learn. At the end of junior year, I was instead taught basic skills, and I knew I needed to learn the right skills because I knew what the industry expected from students.

So, I took 3D modeling courses online and watched many YouTube tutorials on those specific skills, teaching myself the necessary skills for the industry.

Then with my passion for VFX, I went above and beyond and created industry level work such as the Honda Civic Transformer. People called me crazy, but THAT'S what got me hired.

Chase Baker
Founder & CEO | 3D Generalist

I have over a decade of experience and graduated with a bachelor's degree in visual effects from college in 2022. Over the past few years in the industry, I've gathered lots of information and created this course to help other artists learn and create industry level work to increase their chances of getting in the 3D industry.

Some industry projects I've worked on:

  • National Treasure: Edge of History

  • Creed 3

  • Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2

  • NERDS Candy Gummy Clusters (holographic animation)

  • HBO - The Penguin (holographic animation)

FAQ

  • This course covers many VFX roles such as 3D modeling, look-dev texturing, lighting, FX, rendering, and compositing. The course primarily focuses more on the skills of a 3D Generalist in the industry and dives deeper into 3D modeling, texturing, and lighting.

  • This course is not necessarily meant to be followed along, but instead more of a sit back, relax, learn and enjoy course.

  • In the future, I may add more content to this course. I do feel there is much more to be taught and opportunities to learn more about VFX in this course.

  • I wanted to make a straight forward, to the point, no fluff video course that helps inform you of the skills and advice you should know for the industry. Although this is not a masterclass, this course shows you an overview of what you should know for the industry in just an hour.
